About

My name is Catherine and I began my catering career in 1976 in Kathmandu Nepal, you can read more about that here.

About Auntie Katkat

In the late eighties, I moved from Asia to my present location in Spain, today I live in a beautiful village called Guadalmar, next to the Mediterranean. My first restaurant in Spain was here nestling next to the Mediterranean. I had that for nine years. Then it was time for a change and I opened my second restaurant called Katie’s in La Carihuela a fishing village. It was here that I got the name Auntie Katkat, my love of food and food preparation had made me into an archetypal Jewish mama, expressing their love through food.

These pages will represent my favourite recipes and experiments in the kitchen Today I am a food writer and critic because fifteen years ago I was diagnosed with osteoporosis and eventually I could no longer do the physically demanding work of a kitchen.

I bought this domain over ten years ago, but let it lapse and lost it. Then it was bought by someone else as an aged domain and fortunately they let it lapse. So Katkats Kitchen has been reborn.

About My food tastes.

I love a wide range of eclectic food, but my favourite food is without doubt Indian, because I love the rich and complex spices. I also love Italian because Italian food is about the opposite, less is more, it is simple and rustic and made with the freshest ingredients. You can read more about Italian food here.and my full recipe index is here
about heirloom tomatoe
So my favourite foods are about taste, taste is more important in my world than poncy food appearance, I would rather not have a chef faff about and play with it. My food is about taste and simplicity I don’t want ot exhibit it at the Tate. Colour is important though I love my plates to be riotls of colour which reflect my love of fresh veggies, steamed to perfection and the freshest salads with a variety of home grown leaves.

About my passion for gardening

When I moved to Spain twenty five years ago I became concerned about the provenance of my food and created an organic herb garden. This was later followed by an organic vegetable garden. Organic soil is vital for plant health and you can read how to create organic soil here. My other lens is on organic heirloom tomatoe growing

So that concludes the About me of food and gardening. Welcome to blog kick of your shoes, grab your favourite tipple and read about food.

    Hi Kat,

I work over at UK food website Foodepedia.co.uk and we’re putting together an article listing some great things to do with pumpkin once you’re done carving for Halloween.

I was wondering if you’d like some free promo of your awesome pumpkin blog?
I’d love to feature a couple of your recipes within this article….would you be happy to lend us your words and perhaps a photo? (in particular your pumpkin curry)

Let me know if you’re interested,
    Kindest regards,
